  1. CD LabelMaker MEDIA Label Templates for MAC:
  2.  
  3. GENERAL NOTES: 
  4. This disc contains all you need to design great looking media labels 
  5. (CD, Audio CAssette, Video Cassette, Minidisc, 
  6. Floppy, Zip™ & Jaz™ cartridges). 
  7. These templates are designed for ease of use with most major
  8. art packages.  Users should familiarise themselves with these
  9. packages and have their User's Guides handy.
  10.  
  11. When using graphic images that are meant to cover the  entire
  12. label, it is best to  extend the image beyond the  actual border
  13. of  the  label, or  "bleed"  the  image.  This will  ensure  proper
  14. coverage. 
  15.  
  16. When  printing  from these templates, it may  be necessary  to
  17. change  the   portrait/landscape   setting   in   "page setup"  to
  18. accomodate your printer.
  19.  
  20. Media Templates are provided for both US letter and A4 sizes for the
  21. following software packages. A full  description of how to use
  22. them is provided below:

  56. HOW TO CREATE YOUR OWN TEMPLATES
  57. The templates supplied are designed for use with most  laser
  58. and inkjet printers. Due to the mechanical nature of  printers
  59. it is difficult to guarantee that all the  templates will  align
  60. perfectly on the first try.  It may be  necessary to adjust the
  61. image  in  your  design  document  slightly  to  ensure  proper
  62. alignment.
  63.  
  64. If  you  wish  to  create  your  own  template   or    modify   a
  65. CD LabelMaker template, the following information will be useful.  
  66.  
  67. Set  the  page/paper  size  to  landscape  A4  or  US Letter to
  68. match that of your label stock then draw:
  69.  
  70. Front label for CD jewel case
  71. Box 118mm  wide x 45mm  deep at a position 24.5mm across 
  72. and 10mm  down  from   the  top   left   corner   of  the  page. 
  73. (15.7mm & 13mm for US Letter size).
  74.  
  75. Spine label for CD jewel case
  76. Box 118mm  wide x 7mm  deep  at a  position 24.5mm across
  77. and  65mm  down   from  the  top  left  corner   of   the  page.
  78. (15.7mm & 68mm for US Letter size)
  79.  
  80. CD LabelMaker CD label
  81. Outer circle 118mm diameter & inner circle 41mm diameter 
  82. whose centres are at  a  position 83.5mm across and 141mm
  83. down from the top left corner of the page.
  84. (74.7mm &144mm for US Letter size).
  85.  
  86. Both labels are then repeated with the positional  dimensions
  87. relative to the bottom right hand corner of the page.

  89. NOTES ABOUT THE TEMPLATES PROVIDED
  90.  
  91. Illustrator versions 3, 5 and 6;

  95. The  Illustrator  templates  contain  guide  lines on  a separate 
  96. layer.  They do not print and can not  be  edited.   Simply  place 
  97. your artwork within  the  guidelines  and  print.   Due  to  some 
  98. changes to  Illustrator 6  you  may  experience some difficulty 
  99. aligning final prints.  Please consult your manual.

  101. Freehand version 3 and 5;
  102. A4       --    FRHNDA4.FH3      FRHNDA4.FH5
  103. Letter  --   FRHNDLET.FH3     FRHNDLET.FH5

  105. The  Freehand  templates  contain  guide  lines  that  are  on  a
  106. separate  layer.   They  do  not  print  and  can   not  be  edited.
  107. Simply place your artwork within the guidelines and print.

  110. PageMaker versions 5 and 6;
  111. A4        --   PGMKRA4.PM5      PGMKRA4.PM6
  112. Letter  --   PGMKRLET.PM5     PGMKRLET.PM6

  114. The  Pagemaker  templates  contain  guide  lines  that are on a 
  115. separate layer.   They do not print.   Simply place your artwork 
  116. within the guidelines and print.
  117.  
  118. Adobe Photoshop 
  119. A4        --   PHOTOA4.PSD      
  120. Letter  --   PHOTOLET.PSD
  121.  
  122. This  template  may  be  opened  in  any  version  that supports
  123. layers.  This template is provided with guidelines on one layer
  124. and  a mask  on  another layer.   The  guide  lines  indicate  the 
  125. edges of the labels, while the mask allows for image bleeding.  
  126. The guide lines must be deleted before printing.
  127.  
  128. To  see  the   mask,   open  the   "layers palette"   by  selecting 
  129. "windows",  "palettes",  "show layers".    Switch  to  "channels"
  130. and click on the space to  the left  of  "work layer mask".  This
  131. will  show the mask.
  132.  
  133. YOU MUST DELETE THE GUIDE LINES BEFORE PRINTING. 
  134. On the layers palette, select "guides - "delete before printing"
  135. layer by  clicking  anywhere  on that line.   Then  click-on  the
  136. arrow pointing to  the  right  on  the  upper  right  side  of the
  137. layer palette and select delete layer.
  138.  
  139. NOTE:
  140. When  placing  work  in  the  work layer, ensure that the blank
  141. page  (left thumbnail)  on  the  work  layer (second line  of the
  142. layers palette) is selected, not the label layout  thumbnail  on
  143. the right or you risk modifying the mask.

  148.  
  149. The guide is locked and can not be  edited.   Simply place  your
  150. text and graphics within the guides and print.
  151.  
  152. MS Word 
  153. A4       --    WORDA4.DOC
  154. Letter   --   WORDLET.DOC
  155.  
  156. The  label  area  is  shown  by  guide  lines, which under default
  157. settings will not be  visible against the  white  page.   To  view
  158. the  actual  label area, from the  'Tools'  menu select  'Options',
  159. then select 'General' and  check  'Blue Background,  White Text'.
  160. The guide lines will  not  be  printed.   Remember  to  reset  the
  161. 'Options' after printing your labels.
  162.  
  163. The position of all the objects are relative to the page margins.
  164. If the image area is slightly offset to the  label  when  printing
  165. then  adjust  the  margins  accordingly  under 'Page Setup' until
  166. they are aligned.
  167.  
  168. To include  graphics, import your image and then enclose it in a
  169. frame  by  selecting  the  graphic  in  Word  document  and  then
  170. selecting 'insert' 'frame' from the menu options.   You may  then
  171. place the graphic frame anywhere on the document.

  173. ClarisWorks 2
  174. A4       --    CLARIA4.
  175. Letter  --   CLARILET.
  176.  
  177. The  label  area  is  denoted  by  a  series  of  white circles and 
  178. rectangles on a  grey background.   Simply  place  your  artwork 
  179. into the white areas.  Before  printing,  be  sure  to  delete  the 
  180. grey background by clicking anywhere on it and hitting delete.
